Canada Permanent Resident Visa Programs

Canada provides three primary paths for skilled workers to obtain permanent residency via the Express Entry Program:

1. Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP): For skilled professionals aiming to reside and work throughout Canada (excluding Quebec).

2. Provincial Nominee Program (PNP): Enables provinces and territories to select skilled individuals to aid in their economic growth.

3. Canadian Experience Class (CEC): Designed for individuals with skilled work experience in Canada seeking permanent residency.

What are the points requirements for a Canada PR Visa?

To qualify for Canadian Permanent Residence (PR), you must fulfill two primary criteria:

1. Achieve 67 immigration points: Canada employs a points-based system to evaluate applicants. To qualify, you must achieve a minimum of 67 points, taking into account criteria such as age, education, work experience, language abilities, and adaptability.
2. Assess the cutoff CRS score for every draw: Canada holds regular draws from the Express Entry pool. You must achieve a score higher than the cutoff Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score in these selections. Only then will you receive the invitation to apply for PR. The better your score, the greater your likelihood of being chosen.
   

What are the eligibility criteria for the Canada PR Visa?

The qualification for Canada PR status is determined by the point assessment of each candidate. These scores are determined based on the candidate’s personal details, with the assessment criteria including: Age, Language skills, Education, Professional Experience, and adaptability. Points are assigned to the candidate, and based on these points, a score is determined for each candidate under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

These scores vary for each person based on their abilities and qualifications. Following this, the candidate’s minimum eligibility is assessed based on the points set by the IRCC and revealed in the Express Entry Draws. It is important to highlight that only candidates who achieve the minimum points specified in the Express Entry Draws will be eligible to apply for PR status.

1. Age Criteria: There are no particular restrictions on age, and you can apply for a Business or Investor Visa even if you are over 65. However, if you are applying for the FSWP and are younger, you will inherently have an advantage compared to those who are not young. If you are aged 20 to 29, you can achieve the highest Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points possible, which is 100. Nevertheless, if you are over 45 years old, you will receive no CRS points. You will score a maximum of 12 out of 12 points if your age is between 18-35 years.
2. Minimum Educational Criteria: You must possess education that is at least equivalent to the Canadian Secondary School credential. If you possess higher qualifications, you will undoubtedly have an advantage over others and be favored compared to those with only Secondary School qualifications or other educational credentials. Secure a maximum of 25 points for a doctorate-level degree. The higher your degree, the higher the points you score for the education factor.
3. Language Proficiency Criteria: You are required to demonstrate proficiency in at least one of the two official languages of the nation, specifically English or French. Possessing abilities in both areas gives you an edge. The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the relevant Canadian immigration and visa authority, evaluates English and French language proficiency for immigration purposes through the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) system. It assigns a level to language proficiency for each of the four skills, namely, speaking, reading, writing, and listening. The CLBs span from 1 to 12, where levels 1 to 4 are considered a ‘basic’ level of skill, levels 5 to 8 are seen as ‘intermediate’, and levels 9 to 12 are viewed as ‘advanced’.
4. Minimum Work Experience Requirements: You must possess at least 1 year of full-time (30 hours weekly for 12 months) work experience. Secure a maximum of 15 points for work experience if you have skilled work experience of 6 or more years.
5. Adaptability Criteria: This factor offers a total of 10 points at most. You might receive these points if you possess one year of work experience in the Maple Leaf Country. Completing your studies in the country for 2 years earns you 5 points. You could receive points for some additional selection criteria, but the total won’t exceed 10 points.
