  • The NZ government will extend the Active Investor Growth category from June 1 to allow 20% of total investment to be made up of philanthropic contributions.
  • Rules of the English language will now be implemented for skill level 3 AEWV positions.
  • The requirement is already in place for skill levels 4 and 5.
  • Candidates must achieve IELTS 4.0 or a comparable level.
  • The adjustment occurs prior to the introduction of two new skilled residency options starting in August.
  • Employees seeking permanent residency will be given up to five years to achieve the elevated English proficiency levels necessary for residency.
  • The regulation will not apply to roles within the Global Workforce Sector Agreement.
  • A greater number of mid-skilled foreign employees will now require evidence of their English language skills.
  • Applicants might need to take the IELTS or similar language assessments before applying for a work visa.
Employees who possess stronger English proficiency might have an easier time blending into work environments and local communities.
  • Achieving the fundamental English requirement may also aid future residency applications in New Zealand.
